Turning Towards

And then one day they turned towards each other.

Analyzing the layers

The Tree
This stirs up tears (the happy kind) when I see myself here — rooted, providing cover but from a greater distance now. Protection, though, the landscape is more layered now, in all the complications and nuances. I see the wisdom gained through staying attuned and being able to recognize openings; those moments when a new perspective might be received rather than repelled.

Leading lines
I see all the work put in on this road, leading to their turning towards each other. All the unlearning, rebuilding, and healing. Sometimes the magic lies in doing precisely the opposite of what makes sense, the exact opposite of your current perspective. Deciding to give instead of insisting it be earned, instead of insisting the other perform first. Giving the opportunity, the space, for the other to rise.

So that’s how parenting feels this week (and actually, I just want to remember this moment).

Perception

“If everything in perception is grounded in meaning, even seeing red is seeing ‘a meaning,’ as in seeing ‘the behavioral significance of something.’ What you’re doing is seeing the relationships between things, not the thing. The brain is only looking at relationships, not absolutes. So red is actually a direction. It’s a relationship.”
– Beau Lotto (researcher of perception)
