Schiferl Wedding

This wedding was a very special one for me to photograph. It was a day filled with love and laugher … so much laughter!! I have truly enjoyed reliving it all while editing these images and wanted to share a few that I love.

Bridge the Gap

As in to fill a lack: providing something that is missing.
As in to resolve conflict: creating understanding between opposing sides or perspectives

Finding myself in a familiar place. A familiar pace. Back and forth, on repeat. I’m not sure how long I can stay here. But I do know that I got myself in here, and will eventually get myself out.

Don’t lose hope.
It’s the best I could think of for a title, these words set to repeat.
.
The day after the presidential election, in the aisle of a department store, I ran into a former client. Never spoken friends, though maybe mutually felt, we immediately recogonized the heavy in one another and embraced. Commiserating at length about our shared fears. I remember she said, “look for the helpers.” (which also means ‘let’s be the helpers’).
In that moment, I felt hopeful.
In this moment, we witness a helper shot dead in the street.
How does this not bring you to your knees?

An excerpt from my Image Work book:

“In conversation, I shared how I got goosebumps when creating this one. I played around with the positioning of the second image until it landed resting on her shoulder. It fit the original prompt perfectly in my eyes, resonating deeply within me. She also experienced a strong visceral reaction, but in a different way.

To me, this was about holding your pain lovingly.
To me, this was about loving yourself even when you feel unworthy.

To her, it was about dissociation.
To her, it was about stepping out of the body to keep safe and protect this part of her that she doesn’t want anyone to see.

What the image means to us is very personal and speaks to our unique life experiences.”
