Perfectly Imperfect

Those were the words that came to mind when I finished this, perfectly imperfect.
Along with the idea of new beginnings.

I opened up my book, ‘Perfectly Imperfect’ by Baron Baptiste, to a page with these words:

At the deepest level of making a real difference in your practice of asana and meditation, you can practice the slogan “begin again” as a way to shift away from resistance and distraction and return to your true aim in the pose. We can say a lot of things about this practice or presence, but the crux of its purpose is you become empowered and able to dissolve what stands in your way, press the reset button, and begin anew – fresh in the moment.

Tevyn’s photo session was in celebration of her years in dance. Closing this chapter opens doors for her to pursue her other interests with her full presence. Still, it was a tearful weekend as she participated in her last dance recital. So many emotions wrapped together.

Original Images

I searched my images for something like a window, something to match an idea Tevyn had. I decided on this one taken in Lake Como, Italy.

It was an extra windy evening, introducing disruption and obstacles to work around. Another practice in “begin again”. I love how this image captures that very experience. Reset, refocus.

We describe a work of art as successful when it manages to foreground the elements that are valuable but hard to hold on to. We might say that the good artwork pins down the core of significance, while it’s bad counterpart, although undeniably reminding us of something, lets an essence slip away. It is an empty souvenir.
